Alpargatas children's flip flops recalled: violation of Lead in Paint Standard

Alpargatas USA Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has recalled several of its children’s flip flops because in the decorative paint used on the sole of the flip flops may contain levels of lead in excess of the federal standard. These flip flops were manufactured in Brazil and no incidents of injuries have been reported. These sandals were sold in department and specialty stores nationwide from November 2006 through February 2009 and they cost between $15 and $24 a pair.

The specific flip flops being recalled are:

  • Baby Pets,
  • Kids Apple
  • Kids Fairy,
  • Kids Flores,
  • Kids Lighthouse
  • Kids Monsters
  • Kids Surf
  • Baby Letrinha
  • Kids Sport
  • Kids Candie
  • Kids Fun
  • Kids Love
  • Kids Sereias
  • Kids Speed,
  • Kids Lucky Bug
  • Kids Pets
  • Kids Rock
  • Kids Slim
  • Kids Wonder Woman
  • Kids Small Flowers
  • Kids Tropical w/Kit

What to do :

If you have a pair of these you should take them away from children and then call  Alpargatas (888-289-5306) for information on a replacement or a refund or visit the company’s Web site at www.havaianasus.com . You can also check the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website for more information, (http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09137.html).
