Dara O'Rourke
Co-Founder and Chief Sustainability Officer
Dara O'Rourke is the co-founder and Chief Sustainability Officer of GoodGuide and an Associate Professor of Environmental and Labor Policy at the University of California, Berkeley. Dara has spent the last 20 years researching the environmental, labor, and health impacts of global production systems. Dara's work has been featured in The New York Times, The International Herald Tribune, The Boston Globe, The Los Angeles Times, The Economist, Business Week, Newsweek, Time, CBS, ABC, NPR, and even O — the Oprah Magazine. Dara has served as a consultant to the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and a wide range of non-governmental organizations. He was previously a professor at MIT. Dara holds an MS and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley and a BS from MIT.
George Consagra

George Consagra was the former President of Scribd.com, the world's largest social publishing site with more than 60 million users each month. Prior to this, he was COO of Bebo, where he oversaw the sale of Bebo to Time Warner/AOL for $850 million in March 2008 and managed engineering, sales and all global operations. Before joining Bebo, George was an executive at Organic, a leading global digital communications agency, where he was Managing Director and Senior Vice President of Media. George's previous positions include founder and CEO of Media Concrete, a 3D animation studio, and film editor at Lucas Film. He began his career as an assistant cameraman for “60 Minutes” on CBS. George holds an MA in Social Anthropology from Columbia University and BA in Anthropology from Connecticut College.
Bill Pease
Chief Scientist
Bill is Chief Scientist of GoodGuide, where he is responsible for the systems used to rate products and companies by their health, environmental and social impacts. Bill is an environmental scientist and has served on the faculty at the School of Public Health, Universityof California at Berkeley. Bill was also Director of Internet Projects at Environmental DefenseFund, where he created scorecard.org, the web's top-ranked site for localized environmental information. He has worked for CalEPA, the California Department of Health Services, and theMassachusetts Department of Environmental Management. His academic areas of interest include informatics and quantitative risk assessment. Bill holds a BA from Yale University,and an MS in Energy and Resources and a PhD in Environmental Health Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley. He was also a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University in England.
Pedro Vieira
Founding member, Vice President of Ratings and Sustainability
Pedro is responsible for GoodGuide’s proprietary rating algorithm, its team of researchers and for overseeing the environmental assessment of products and companies. He works closely with the product development and engineering teams to help integrate cutting edge science with innovative information visualization methods to transform how consumers see and interact with products and companies. Pedro has over 10 years of experience in environmental policy, environmental impact assessment and environmental management. He’s particularly interested in making science useful for society and is an expert translating complex science into usable products and services. He has worked on a wide range of sectors including energy, construction, banking, internet and consumer goods and has received awards both in Europe and the U.S. for his research and publications, including ES&T Best Papers of 2008. Pedro holds an M.Sc. in Management of Technology and a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
Mike McGuinness
Vice President, Business Development
Mike McGuinness is Vice President of Business Development at GoodGuide. Prior to joining GoodGuide, Mike held management positions at Scribd, Hewlett-Packard and several Silicon Valley start-ups and was also founder of a company that enabled payments for online purchases. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BSE from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Ryan Aipperspach
Co-Founder and Director of Engineering
Ryan Aipperspach is a co-founder and Director of Engineering at GoodGuide. Prior to joining GoodGuide, he was a member of the Berkeley Institute of Design at the University of California, Berkeley and a regular collaborator at Intel Research where he spent time researching human-computer interaction, mobile technologies, and information visualization. Ryan is also co-founder and technology consultant at Tatcha.com. He holds an MS from the University of California, Berkeley and a BS from Rice University.
Daniel Schmidt
Director of Product Management, Consumer
Prior to joining GoodGuide, Dan was a senior product manager for CNET and later CBSInteractive where he developed CNET’s social media and community strategy, oversaw the overhaul of CNET’s content management system and led multiple website redesigns. He is a recognized expert in the emerging field of social media and its potential for changing how consumers and companies interact. Dan holds a BA in Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley.
